MEANING
Medical experts define Amebiasis as a contagious intestinal illness the main culprit of which is Entamoeba histolytica parasite which contaminates drinks or food and when this contaminated food or drink is taken by humans, they catch Amebiasis. A tiny single-celled micro-organism called amoeba is spreads Amebiasis. The disease is named on the name of the parasite which causes it. Amebiasis flourishes abundantly in places with improper sanitation facilities. This disease manifests more in many places of Southeast Asia, India, Latin America and Africa.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
  • The main symptom of this disease is the abdominal pain which does not go away easily and increase in intensity gradually.
  • Frequent bowel movements, nausea, loss of appetite, bloody stool and cramps are observed in patients.
  • Some patients notice symptoms appear after a week while other patients notice the symptoms even after months.
CAUSES
Entamoeba histolytica parasite is the main culprit for Amebiasis. This parasite penetrates the intestinal walls, thereby results in ulcers and abscesses. After penetration, they enter the intestinal veins and the blood flow then carries them to the liver. Although the disease spreads through contamination, yet some people’s immunity is so strong that they are not affected by the infection even after a family member contracts the disease. It has been noticed that some people live life long as carrier of this parasites but do not get the disease themselves.

YOGIC MANAGEMENT
  • Pranayama and Yoga asanas improve the digestion and enhance immunity.
  • Pawanmuktasana is generally recommended by our experts for the treatment of this disease.
  • Shankhaprakshalana has also been noticed to cure Amebiasis.
  • A person must practice Vajrasana for ten minutes after meals to get instant relief.
  • Shavasana, sarvangasana, matsyendrasana, paschimottanasana, shalabhasana, mayurasana and Bhujangasana are also recommended to be practiced after pawanmuktasana.
HOME REMEDIES
Experts suggest to take Juice of apricot leaves to cure this condition. Drumstick also treats this disease effectively. Fasting is also an effective means for controlling loose motions.

AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT
We all know that Ayurveda has medicines for almost all the diseases. Some peculiar plants have been noticed to help cure this contagious disease.
  • Mix Neem leaf paste with mustard oil and turmeric oil, all in similar quantities. This preparation must be applied on the stomach of the affected person and the remedy works very fast to minimize the cramps as well as discomfort.
  • Dried peepul bark must be finely powdered and then mixed with water, strained through a fine sieve and then consumed to get a cure from the disease.
CONCLUSION
Prevention is better than cure and so are the healthy food habits that work faster than medicines for the treatment of Amebiasis. One should avoid fried foods, uncooked vegetables and overheated food. Khichari and boiled vegetables are generally recommended. Though very tough but fasting works as one of the most effective ways for alleviating exacerbation of these symptoms. If diarrhea a prominent symptom due to indigestion then dairy products must not be consumed and light meal once a day is good. Curd and rice have been known to give some relief from indigestion problems since ages.

Practical hints on Yoga practice
Following guidelines must be followed to get maximum health benefits of yoga:
  • Be aware of your body’s limit to bear strain and do the yoga to the extent your body feels comfortable. Don’t force, strain, or, least of all, judge yourself.

  • Make sure to notice at first any sort of pain, exhaustion, dizziness, shortness of breath, or any other discomfort and do not hesitate to slow down or stop, immediately.

  • Feel relaxed and comfortable, and go easy to become a healthier, happier person, naturally. Do not compete with others as far as yoga is concerned and follow your own pace. Choose the starting easier asanas and pranayamas in the beginning first. Gradually move to other practices that seem a little difficult to you.

  • It is advised not to practice Yoga for 2-3 hours after meals. For best results yoga must be done when your stomach and bowels are empty. It is alright to have a few sips of water before, but not during Yoga practice. Always avoid direct sunlight for doing yoga whatever the pose may be.

  • Avoid tight fittings and wear loose and comfortable clothes, if possible cotton, to Yoga practice, to allow making movements freely. Even slippers or shoes must be avoided rather, use a large thick towel or Yoga mat.

  • Ensure to relax for at least 10–15 minutes after each session Even if you are not a beginner it is recommended to practice Yoga under expert supervision. Above all, consult your doctor how it suits you, before starting Yoga practice.

Yoga for Beginners

Our body works like machinery that is a combination of several joints. Similar to the machine parts, the joints in our body also need movement and lubrication time to time on a regular basis. While the lubrication is provided by the food we eat, Yoga and other physical activities are required for essential joint movements. A bitter truth is that in our day to day life some of our joints tend to get overused, while some are barely used.

Although we all get used to this condition of our body but the bad effects appear at a later stage, when health problems occur. Yoga is especially helpful to maintain the flexibility and healthy condition of joints because most of the yoga asanas are developed to increase the basic movements of joints.

Benefits of Yoga for Beginners
  • While the muscles which are focused during a particular yoga asana, work out, the rest of the body muscles get relaxed. Hence concentration on the movement of a particular muscle comes easily.

  • Old Age people and those, whose movements are restricted, also can perform these movements without much strain.
Yoga basics of beginners
  • Youths below 12 years of age are advised not to practice Yoga asanas for long and also to avoid maintaining asanas for very long.

  • Yoga gives maximum results if practiced for at least half an hour or more daily. Start with beginner yoga poses.

  • It is however advised to practice yoga asanas in early morning; as the concentration is maximum at that time but one is short of time then yoga can be practiced in the evenings as well

  • Yoga experts recommend practicing yoga asanas empty stomach. Any solid food must be consumed at least 3 – 5 hours before practicing and liquids 1 hour before.

  • Choose a place to practice that is spacious, clean, airy and far from disturbances.

  • It is recommended to practice yoga on a mat or carpet below but not on the bare floor.

  • Tight fittings are not allowed to be worn while practicing. Only loose, comfortable and clean cloths must be worn.

  • Undergarments are mandatory.

  • Spicy foods must be avoided during yoga practice, only a vegetarian diet must be followed.
Yoga Postures of beginners (Asanas)
  • Ashtanga Yoga describes yoga asanas as its 3rd limb. Not only we get a good physical health, but also learn how to control our mind and increase concentration power.

  • Most of the yoga asanas are based on the very slow and steady movements. Unlike other forms of exercise (Jogging, swimming) rapid movements are excluded in yoga poses.

  • The most important advantage of yoga asanas is that the body gets relaxed which subsequently, reduces the stress & strain of mind and body.

  • Unlike other physical activities, we burn comparatively fewer calories during Yoga practice.

  • Yoga helps to bring down the body’s metabolism rate thereby decreasing the rate of aging process.
